Fifty-First Anniversary — Vampire Research Society

The Vampire Research Society began life in 1967. It became a specialist unit within the British Occult Society in that year. The BOS, led by †Seán Manchester, had initiated an official investigation into the Highgate Vampire case, but its specialist unit was barely able to cope by the end of that decade. Hence, at Candlemas 1970, it was decided by †Seán Manchester to make the VRS an independent body. A public announcement to that effect followed, and the VRS took control of the case. The BOS was formally dissolved on 8 August 1988 by †Seán Manchester who explained that it had outlived its purpose. The VRS remains extant as a unique organisation. Membership is strictly by invitation only.
